Is this on?

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been here. The last time I posted was in September of 2021 and since then I’ve been MIA. But I’m back! Right?

A lot and not a lot has happened since I last posted here. I am still reading, I’m still on Bookstagram, and I’m also working my way through making an inventory and unhaul of my books. I now use StoryGraph over Goodreads, and I’ve also dabbled in creating nail art inspired by book covers!

I’m not 100% sure what I’ll be writing here going forward but there’s this short post to start. I can give a quick currently reading update though so, here it is:

  • 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami – I’m buddy reading this one with a friend and we both agree that we just gotta finish it to know what on earth is happening in the book. None of the characters are interesting anymore and Murakami is one of the worst authors I’ve read for women characters. I’ll save all my thoughts for when I finish reading it but I’m not having a good time…
  • Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire edited by Jehad Abusalim, Jennifer Bing, and Mike Merryman-Lotze – It’s important to me to educate myself on what has been happening in Palestine for decades now. They are undergoing a genocide and there’s not enough being done by so many governments around the world. This book is a collection of essays and poems about Palestine from various perspectives. So far I’ve read essays on the political history, the importance of agriculture, and the evolution of architecture while they continue to be attacked. I’m learning a lot!
  • Nuestra Parte de Noche by Mariana Enriquez – I’m only about 10% into this novel. It’s horror about a man and his son as they travel in Argentina to search safety in what seems to be a totalitarian regime of some sort. I’m loving the writing style!
  • Ship of Theseus by Doug Dorst and JJ Abrams – Yep, that JJ Abrams! My sister gifted me this book because she thought I’d enjoy the format. It is basically a book that has annotations all over the margins as well as additional papers, receipts, images, etc that build another story about two people who are trying to find out who is the author of the book that they are writing on. It’s definitely interesting and I’m taking my sweet time with it.
  • The Color of Law A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein – Another nonfiction book! This one is about urban planning and how certain areas are planned in ways that are inherently racist and create even bigger gaps that make it even more difficult for people of color to be able to get the resources that they need. I’ve also only started it and will be taking my time with it.
  • Tribu de Lectoras by Libros Before Tipos – This is a collection of essays by Mexican writers who met because they all created book content on YouTube. They all have various passions for reading and I just started it. I’m looking forward to reading all the essays!
  • Women’s Liberation!: Feminist Writings that Inspired a Revolution & Still Can edited by Alix Kates Shulman and Honor Moore – I’ve only read the introduction for this book and I think it’ll take me a couple of months to get through it. There are a lot of classic essays by well known authors and also some by lesser-known feminists. I’m hoping it’s not all white feminism and that it also involves other folks.

Anyways, that’s what’s going on with me! Once I finish my book inventory I’ll be sure to share some of my process as well as stats and goals for what I want to achieve this year. Oh and I have a book buying ban going on now as well! Lots going on and lots to share.

Happy reading!
